Well, this game is finally done, and I learned some valuable lessons along the way. First off, don't tell people you will have a program done in a week, and then listen to them complain that it isn't finished yet. Instead, say that it will take you 2 months, then let them all be surprised when you are done early. As it was, the entire project took 5 weeks from start to finish, so that wasn't too bad. The orginal project started out as "slimes and spikes", a simple game where slimes would drop from the top of the screen and you would place trapping spikes that would pop up when they moved over it (inspired by Tecmo's Deception games). However, it wasn't long before the project grew beyond that, to a "Tetris with Spells" type game design - action based strategy puzzle game (which spells will stop which monsters?). I owe many thanks to my summer roommate, Ben Moore, who is the most recent addition to the Random Thoughts team. The Mercs and Dilemma banners were his "application" so to speak, and once he had joined he proved himself an invaluable worker. He spent well over a hundred hours doing (and redoing and redoing) the graphics to give me the look and feel I wanted for the game. I was very pleased with how well he took my constant critisism and suggestion on his artwork. None of us get paid for this, so it was refreshing that he was willing to donate so much of his free time to this project, and we all look forward to working with him on future projects. This is actually just a "side project" that I was working on while Ed was figuring out how to do saving in Mercs (as if I know perl or java script or whatever he was using...), and now I'm going back to working on our main project. Hopefully we will be able to release a fun little "side project" game every couple of months just to keep things interesting for all of you during the long waits between our main projects. As this was just a side project, I decided not to build it to run on as many computers as possible, so on medium to low end computers the game can be unplayable. Sorry, but I wanted to make a game that took advantage of all I could do, including music, graphics, etc. ~ so if you have a nice computer, enjoy!! Thanks for playing Diib's Dilemma!!
