It would be difficult to describe here all of the 1500+ items available to your mercenary band, but even if I could begin to relate to you the arsonal at your disposal why would I? That would rob you of the wonderful feeling of discovery every time you find something new, and I wouldn't want to be responsible for that! Instead I think that I will merely show you a layout of all the different kinds of weapons you may find on your journey. Or should I say some of them. There are many more than are shown here. May you find the others on your own.
Swords and Blades
Bladed weapons could well be the best weapon for versitility. There are a wide variety of bladed weapons and there are many available for any mercenary. Although they will do a reletivly high amount of damage, these weapons are usually only good for short range attacks.
Mace and Flail Weapons
These weapons are probably the best choice for a beginning party that just wants to go for brute force. The heavier maces will do a great deal of damage in the hands of someone strong enough to weild them. However, they are reletivly slow weapons and do not afford the fighter with much defensive tactics.
Staves and Pole Arms
Pole arms are an excellent choice for adventurers who do not attack often. Scouts are an excellent choice for arming with a staff because it will give a mercenary a high defencing rating allowing him to travel alone without quickly dieing. Due to it's range a staff also makes a good weapon for weaker characters who fight in the back of the party.
Axes and Halberds
For those of you who want the offensive strength of the mace while at the same time having the defence of the sword an axe is the way to go. Halberds are even better, giving the user the range of pole arms. These weapons are extremely heavy and of all the starting mercenaries only the recruit can handle one.
Range Weapons
Most range weapons can only be used by archers, marksman and wizards regardless of weight. Although there are throwing knives and whips that can be used by all, those are the only exceptions. Slings and crossbows have a shorter range than regular bows but crossbows will do the most damage.
Shields and Bucklers
One of the most common of defensive choices in Mythica is a simple buckler or sheild. Their lightweight construction and affordable price range make them a popular choice among mercenary bands. On the other hand, they have the unfortuate drawback of not being able to provide full body coverage of the warrior carrying it. A mercenary must choose between either a shield or an armor, for they cannot give up the speed and dexterity it would take to carry both.
Armor Types
Another choice for a fledging band of mercenaries is full body armor. They generally have less defensive power than their coresponding shields, but they more than make up for this drawback in their ability to cover more of the mercenary's body. Armor comes in many types and a wide range of quality in between. Some kinds of leather armor, for instance, are far better than light chain mail. Do not assume that an armor is not of great quality by the picture alone.
Spoils of War
There are many usefull items that a band can pick up on their quest. Some will increase the party's fame or gold and others will effect it's ability in haggling with the local merchants. Special items can have effects on the overall party, on an individual member or just give you information. There are many effects that items can have and not all are good. You may wish to save your game before using a not previously seen item.
Wizard's Wardrobe
The staves and robes of the wizard are by far the most valuable equipment in the game. A well outfitted wizard can be most invaluable to a party. The wizard's wardrobe can cast many spells both defesive and to attack. Unfortunatly only wizards are wise enough to figure out the propper use of most of these items. There are rumors of a mystical hat that can be used by all, however.
Rare and Magical Items
Many other highly valued weapons and armor that can be bought as well as magical items that can be found on a mission. It is well for a party to purchase any magical weapons or armor that they may come across for they can be most invaluable on a mercenary's quest. Some items will also magically increase the users physical might.
